One of our gang of frugal travelers sent me this email today and told me I could share it with his fellow blog readers. The bold-ing is mine and I removed the address for his discretion.
“So I was over by the AMEX office on xxxxxxxx Ave this morning and thought “what the hell let’s give it a go”. I walk in and was greeted by a clerk that I have dealt with many times and asked her if I could buy TC’s with my SPG personal card. She smiled and said “We just got a new memo about this and I think we can start doing this again, let me check” she reaches over and pulls out a binder and flips pages until she finds what she was looking for and then turns the book around to show me the memo dated this week. The bottom line is they can sell $1,000 EVERY 30 DAYS to members with the branded cards. The transaction is still fee free. What the memo did not say is if this transaction will go through as a purchase or a cash advance. Also there was no language regarding the earnings of points for the transaction. Unfortunately, I can not be the guinea pig as I made my last purchase on 11/5 – the day before “Black Thursday”.”
You heard it first on the Frugal Travel Blog. And remember the cards that have worked in the past of SPG personal and business, Hilton, and Delta cards. The Amex color cards (green, blue, platinum etc) have not worked in the past.
