My walking pace has slowed down the last couple days. It has been a truly relaxing 8 days. Katybug was so zoned out a couple days ago, she had to get a Red Bull just to start her heart again.
“And you shall know peace” became reality. We had a great time.
The Hilton graciously extended our checkout time to 2PM from the typical 12:30PM. This benefit is typically reserved for Diamond members, but the guy had a hard time selling the 12:30 time as they only have 800+ vacant rooms that don’t need cleaning. What difference does an couple hours make. They could have cleaned our room ten days from now when it finally starts to fill up.
As a last purchase, Katy wanted a bottle of water for the night of the 9th. $6 for a bottle. If we still drank liquor, I suggested we could use a shot glass to make sure we got our monies worth. $6 a bottle. Our dinner the last night was two hamburgers and two diet cokes at the Lagoon Grill watching the dolphins play. $46 including a 15% tip.
It may sound like I’m complaining (well ok, a little), but we had a great time and with the flights being free and the rooms being free, I guess we can get ripped off for a few meals. The prices off site are better, but not much. Try to the Island Fish Grille behind the King’s Shops for some decent fried fish and shrimp. And the market in the Queens Marketplace will save you a few bucks on meals if you have a gang with you. Our room had a fridge, no microwave and weak coffee packets and small coffee maker.
The red eye leaves at 10PM on the 10th and our route is KOA-SFO at 5:04 AM on the 11th, then 7:30 AM to 4PM SFO to IAD, then 5:05PM to 6:50 PM IAD to SAV. The only possible bump looks like IAD to SAV but I’ll ask at every airport.
The economy is down and occupancy as well. The local news is all over the tourism downturn story and I expect you can find some decent deals on their slow weeks coming up.
We’ll be back in February and already looking to repeat this trip exactly as we just did it next December. Sheraton Poipu Beach on Kauai and Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island, 4 days each, with either award stays or Priceline steals.
