The e-fares came out Tuesday on United.com and I had several opportunities to choose from. I wanted the most miles for the least $$$, as always, and had my choices of Seattle of Boise at $222 plus tax each from Savannah. Katy is off to Columbia to see Shannon before her trip to Brazil, so it was a perfect opportunity for me to add a few miles to the account cheaply and get some work done. The weather report for Hilton Head was not conducive to golf or outdoor activities so I might as well be productive and earn some EQM’s at the same time. I tried hooking up with Dave from the Best Rate Guarantee blog as we have been trying for months to have a face to face again. It seems the e-fares from Calgary did not include Boise and he is off in another direction.
I know Lucky from the One Mile at a Time blog is in the air every weekend so I dropped him a note and he is flying TPA-ORD-SFO-SEA-IAD along with another Flyertalker Saturday and the ORD-SFO leg is on a 3 class 777 with plenty of upgrade space.
I worked hard to get that to price out with the final destination of Seattle but just could not get United.com to make it happen. I love Seattle, but this weekend it was just not in the cards.
But Boise was, and it allowed me the opportunity to get on that ORD-SFO segment. So I’m off to Idaho, one of two states I have never been to. If there are any Boise based Frugal Travel guys or gals around Sunday looking for a free cup of coffee, let me know.
My routing is SAV-ORD-SFO-BOI-ORD-SAV and priced out at $22.01 and my $200 voucher Katy got for the bad starting TV screen on our last flight from Sydney to Los Angeles.. You have got to just love flying lots of miles on vouchers.
All these E-500′s I have in my account are coming to use as the SAV to ORD and the ORD to SFO segments have already cleared so we get the nice seat up front and they don’t go to waste. Remember in the second quarter of 2010 they become obsolete with Unlimited upgrades on United.
When I completed my booking and upgrades I went back to print out my itin and receipt and itinerary and found that United had charged my credit card the full price of $260 with with tax. It took almost 45 minutes on the phone first to the 1K line then web support to get that corrected but I am indeed paying $68 to Boise and it doesn’t look like it will be much colder than Hilton Head.
More miles in my account. A nice bump opportunity SFO-BOI, I get to see a new city, maybe meet some more readers, and spend some quality time making the blog a better place for you to be.
George at StrategicDevelopment.com really worked me over with this strategic planning stuff. I highly recommend having a pro review your business model to learn how to make it more enjoyable for those using your project or business, but also make it a more fulfilling experience for you as well. George is definitely one of us travel nuts, and am grateful to have him on my team.
