Regarding the discussions of various American Express cards and Rick's mention on July 17 of a limit on the number of American Express cards per person, I asked on flyertalk, and it seems that there may not be an exact hard limit.

I have seen claims that there is a hard limit of four cards per person and claims that there is a limit of 2 personal credit cards, 1 personal charge card, 2 personal business cards and 1 business charge card.

Also, I read a post that seemed to indicate that AmEx stopped allowing people to reallocate credit capacity among their cards. So, I wonder if that has lead to AmEx telling people that they have to close one card to qualify for another.

Anyhow, here are the flyertalk threads I am referring to. I hope these pointers are helpful, and I would be interested in any further information on this.
