Rick, I just returned from a Mediterranean cruise. Thanks to your advice, we were able to fly business class on BA and Iberia to get there. Thanks to your advice, we were able to stay in the Carlton Cannes one night, basically for peanuts. And thanks to your advice, I have over 800,000 frequent flier miles amassed just in the past two years. My travel experiences will be cheap (as in low-cost) and luxurious from now on, thanks to your advice!

I'm not sure where to leave this comment, but as a fan of your blog, i thought I should share this:
Got Amex card for wife and I 6mo. ago free with 15k rewards; then Amex Starwood 3 mo. ago with 15K, (but asked for more after incentive went to 30K; got another 5k; and just got the Delta Amex last month for 25k.

Well, I found out at Costco yesterday tha Amex froze my account.

After elevating my call with Amex to a supervisor, who called back 5 hours later, he explained that my account (and my wifes0 were in "review" because we opened "too many cards" in too short a time. He acknowledged that we had excellent credit scores and were always on time.
They have given me 5 business days to fill out an IRS 4506T form, giving them the OK to view my tax returns.
On principle, I think, after the way I was treated, I will cancel. Any thoughts or suggestions from you or your other readers?

Anon: They approved the cards. You have made timely payments. I also believe that the review is unwarranted BUT if you want one of their cards, they are in the drivers seat.

I agree with you that I would not respond with the info they have requested on principle, but how bad do you want their cards?

Thanks for the prompt feedback. Glad you agree. Yes, their agreement gives them the right to do what they did.
Happily, those cards are unnecessary. Just for the extra miles. I transferred the rewards points into my/wifes Continental accounts, which will hopefully become United points shortly.
The Starwood points were transferred to our AA accounts…so were still happy, and I'll take whatever FICO hit there is for cancelling at "Cardmembers Request"!

Someone remind me how many AMEX cards are we allowed from AMEX. I currently have a HH, SW, Costco, and Business Rewards (have miles pending on that one). I think I'm at AE's limit of cards for this promo.

You may want to reconsider amex request. Users on fatwallet have experienced difficulties applying for future amex cards as a result of denying the tax form request.

Same request from me with 5 AMEX cards total. I did not follow up with there request and the result was the cards were lowered to $2k limits!!
