Southwest Free Flight Well Almost Free
I’m a big fan of No First Year Free and the Southwest card comes close with a $59 first year fee for the Signature card. To the card’s benefit it pays the full 16 credits required for a roundtrip ticket, upon first purchase and also offers 8 more credits for an eligible balance transfer (watch the balance transfer fee). Plus you pick up two more credits every year on payment of the renewal fee.
I do not live in a Southwest market (wish I did for the price competition), but fly the cattle call airline once or twice a year. I have no problem with their business model for shorter length flights and the on board and gate staff are always a hoot.
