Coming to the End of the Suntrust/Delta Deal

A Delta Suntrust Debit Card Fan

The End is Near for the Suntrust/Delta Deal. All documents must be in order by the end of December and I’m sure I’ll hear from Kris and Megan on HHI shortly with a deadline for applications. The accounts need to be funded by December 31st and I’m not sure if the debit cards need to be issued or not by then, but if you are considering this deal: ACT NOW. Their phone number is on the right hand blog column down near the bottom of the page with the Rick’s Top Travel Deals

Chase Continental One Pass Card. Is it a First Time Offering?

I just realized that the Chase/Continental Card I have been advertising is in all probability a first time card offering. Duh? I don’t ever remember seeing a Continental One Pass card in the past. I’d be surprised if anyone has been denied because they have had this particular card before? Have you ever seen this card before? Have you ever had a Chase Continental One Pass Card before?

Katy has applied. I have held off due to my over numerous Experian inquiries (Chase in South Carolina pulls from Experian). Maybe early next year for me. Here is the offer again.

Bonus on First Purchase, No First Year Fee, $50 Statement Credit, First Checked Bag Free

Chase (JPMorgan Chase & Co.)

Golfers-I’m on the Blue Monster Today

What a treat to play this course. Anytime I can tee it up where the big boys play, I enjoy comparing my lack of skill to their prowess. I’ll be playing from the whites. Closest guess to my score wins, well, I’ll think of something. I’m a 13.2 index.

At first glance, the Amex Plat seems very expensive @ $450 or so a year. But, this card delivers big, if you know how to work it. Lounge access, hotel perks, lost ticket insurance, the amazing Vegas hotel promos, the new $200 airline fee credit benefit, the onboard cruise credit if you charge your cruise w/ the card… I can make a dime dance, and I like (maybe not love, that's saved for my Amex SPG)this card enough to get off my wallet for the annual fee. With little effort, the first year fee is free – make sure your sign-up bonus or whatever they're offering is worth at least $450 to you. For instance, my offer 3+ years ago was 10% rebate on the first 5K of spend w/in 90? 120? days. Right out of the gate I was ahead $50.
As with all deals, make sure it works for you. (I sigh when I read about the Mint – where I live it just won't work for me – it's not worth alienating my banker/next-door neighbor. Very small town).

The 20% rebate actually increases the value pf a membership reward point by 25%. A point that got you one cent in value now get you 1.25 cents in value (math: spend 1.25 mr points for 1.25 cents in value, you get back 20%. or .25 mr points. So you spend 1 point for 1.25 cents in value).

Dear Rick, with polite respect, be careful not to become a shill for Amex. I know you like the click through references, and the points that gets you personally, BUT if that clouds your judgement, and the site starts promoting card deals that are just average at best, then many of us will stop visiting.

Please try to keep a healthy critical distance from the offers and promotions: Everyone knows Amex own flights are very overpriced compared to what you can get yourself, so.. why are you billing it as a great deal if you get some points back for over-paying?
You've pushed this card hard in repeated posts, so.. please help me keep my respect for this site's independence intact!

The Gold Business one is far better value. no fee and 50,000 points for a 10k spend.

Rick- Not sure if this was discussed before, but I tested the MR "exchange rate" using Pay-with-Points. A hotel room came to $.0094/point, so with the 20% bonus it would be $.01128/point. A flight was $.0125/point, or $.015/point if used with the bonus. And I believe the Pay-with-Points conversion rate with Amazon is about $.007/point (no bonus). Hope this helps.

Narikin: Sorry we disagree here. I have consisitently suggested this card is a good deal ONLY IF you need lounge access. Obviously otherwise your choice is correct. The lounge access alone is worth the $450 fee and the 50K in MR points on this card is with a much smaller spend requirement, PLUS the $200 icidentals and bonus. Yes I do get a referral but also only plug cards that I think have value to you, and in many cases plug cards where I do NOT get a referral RE: BA 100K Visa, Citicards at 75K.

You'll also note as a regular reader. I quite often direct readers AWAY from my particular links if there is a better offer elsewhere IE: the 30K SPG offer.

Again, if you neeed lounge access this is the better offer.

"I quite often direct readers AWAY from my particular links if there is a better offer elsewhere"

Only one of the reason we love you so much "bro" and tell everyone on the planet to read your blog each and every day!

    FYI-
If you don't want to pay the $450 per year for the plat amex, you can get up to 3 additional cards under one membership. The extra cards are around $175 total per year for all 3. It's nice if you have friends/family to share this with and still get all the perks!

Hate to say it but I have to agree 100% with narikin. Seems as the blog progresses the more referral links are pushed on users. Keep it balanced :)

    Hi,

a sample search on amextravel was only 14.78 more than travelocity. also i'm a premier rewards member and i got the 20% see below:

    Total payment due: $384.78 *
    or
    30,782 Membership Rewards® points

Maybe it's a current promo not just for plat.

Does anyone know if you can bring your spouse or guest(s) in the lounge with this card promo?

  • FrugalTravelGuy

Mon: yes you cam take guests

I think it’s totally legit for Rick to promote this card. I don’t travel all that much (I do like lounge access when I travel tho) and I got the card anyway. The reason being is that after the initial spend I will have earned 51k Amex points… transferred smartly to an airline this can be 75% of the way to a business class trip to Europe on LH/LX/OS… and that’s well worth $450 to me!
    ;-)
