Lucky over at the One Mile at a Time blog is a friend of Captain Denny F. Captain Denny is a terrific ambassador for the airline and a truly remarkable Captain. He introduces himself to his passengers in the premium cabins, checks on your pets in the cargo hold and holds contests on his flights at times among other things. I had the privilege of flying with Captain Denny one night from Chicago to San Francisco aboard Flyertalk One. It was a typical United flight that they renamed in our honor as we had the entire First Class section full of Flyertalkers with a spill over in the coach cabin.
The flight was a blast with all the other aviation nuts and capped off our day after a behind the scenes look at the operations center at O’Hare and trip to the ramp tower. Captain Denny arranged the tour for us and gave us his full attention all on his own time.
Now that I’m done glowing about meeting this guy, here is a typical Captain’s schedule for a month. If I recall correctly we were on a 767 with Captain Denny, but from the look of this months schedule, I’m assuming part of it is on smaller equipment unless SMF now takes 767′s.

Twenty Seven flights crisscrossing America in four separate blocks of days on the road. Can you imagine the responsibility and living that work schedule?
On many occasions Captain Denny invites a group of us to meet him for dinner along his journey. I’ll try to catchup with Captain Denny in December. He is a fascinating guy.
