John’s Sunday Success Story
Rick, here’s my story of a magical Disney vacation thanks to all I learned from your blog.
I jumped on the Capital One 100K match program and got both the business card and the personal card. I got a full match because I had lots of frequent flier miles accumulated from your many tips. I did the same for my wife after moving some of my Starwood Preferred Guest card (SPG) points to her frequent flier account to bump up her match. That resulted in $4200 in free travel spend. We then used FF miles for four free tickets to Orlando. The five-day hotel stay (and meals at the hotel) were paid for by the Capital One promo, as were the $1150 (!) multi-day theme park tickets. So our five-day trip for a family of four was totally free except for some meals and incidentals.
Our Orlando hotel was an SPG hotel, so we got one day’s credit toward their current “stay three nights, get one free night later” promotion. That meant I needed just two more nights to get a free night. So I found and booked a $62 night at a local Sheraton, also paid for by Capital One. Those free Getaway nights will be used for a winter stay at a Sheraton ski resort in Colorado, normally $200+ per night. A second free night will come courtesy of my usual SPG credit card spend/points. And we still have $2K of Capital One travel spend left! Many thanks for your help.
– John
Note the stacking John did with this vacation: He used the Capital One reimbursement to pay for stays that earned him even more free stays. Brilliant move, John!
HAPPY FATHERS DAY DAD/RICK/FTG!
