The United card offer came out last night and quite frankly I am extremely disappointed in the terms of the offer. Here is a link:
It may offer 40,000 miles but you need $25,000 in spend to get the full 40k. and the wording indicates that you cannot be a previous United cardholder and get the bonus. I don’t know if that will hold true but the start for this card leaves me feeling let down.
The big spend for the last 10K is bad enough but when a card is hyped as a new card, that to me means that there can’t be a prior cardholder restriction. It is a new card. These terms and conditions show a prior card holder restriction: I bolded the wording:

Earn MileagePlus Miles:
You will earn 1 mile for each $1 of net purchases. You will earn 1 additional mile for each $1 of net purchases made directly from United and on tickets purchased directly from Continental and at continental.com. As a one-time bonus each Year, once you reach $25,000 or more in net purchases you will receive 10,000 miles. (“Year” means, for your first year as a cardmember, the period beginning with your enrollment date through your December statement date of that same year. For each year thereafter, “Year” means the twelve month period beginning the day after your December statement date through your December statement date of the next year.) There is no maximum number of miles that you can accumulate in the program. Mileage Expiration:

United MileagePlus Visa Card Program Information:
Individuals whose requests for this offer are not approved will not be enrolled in MileagePlus through this request, although existing MileagePlus members will remain enrolled in MileagePlus. Authorized users will not be enrolled in MileagePlus as a result of this request. MileagePlus miles awarded through the use of the authorized user’s card will only be credited to the primary cardmember’s account. If a cardmember’s membership in United’s MileagePlus Program is terminated in accordance with the terms and conditions of that Program, the cardmember will no longer be eligible for or receive any MileagePlus miles for purchases using the United MileagePlus Card. Chase’s sole obligation concerning the award and redemption of miles shall be to make a valid request to United to award miles to the cardmember’s associated MileagePlus Visa card account. Chase disclaims liability or responsibility for United’s failure to award or redeem miles to the cardmember’s associated MileagePlus account after Chase has met its obligations to United in connection with such a request.
