United Explorer Card is Now Available!

And quite frankly a disappointment…

The card calls for a $25,000 spend to earn the last 10,000 of 40,000 points.

It also has wording indicating that previous United cardholders would not get the sign up bonus.

The first year fee is waived, but clearly the Chase Sapphire Preferred card with a 50,000 point sign up and no foreign transaction fees is a better offer. You can transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Continental miles 1:1 and then into United if you so desire.

Let’s hope Chase rethinks this new card offer in terms of the sign up bonus and minimum spend.

I definitely agree that Flyertalk has become less civil over the years. People are less willing to help, quicker to dismiss and judge, and far more negative when they don't agree with someone. I'm a big fan of milepoint because of the true community feel and the willingness to help one another.

Anyway, thank you for your blog. I look forward to reading it every night at midnight (west coast time)!

Wow, great milestone. I didn't even think to mark my 10 year a few years back. Probably should have, but was most likely on a flight.

FT continues to be a great resource but more for the research and knowledgebase that it provides. MP is certainly trying to make a new fresh community and they might make it happen, however, the volume of information is still lacking and often one needs to head back over the FT to actually find the info one needs. Time will tell if enough of the right people will shift

I am relatively new to FT and the whole points game, but I can understand people's frustrations on there, especially at newbies asking questions that have been answered a million times. That's why I really appreciate this post, and you mentioning repeatedly to read, read, read. I have learned so much in a short period of time, and while I was often tempted to ask a question, I always found that a few minutes of searching would give me the answer, and usually, more info as well.
