The surprise to me is seeing the BA card in there – yes its a 100,000 miles, but BA have huge redemption taxes/surcharges on their metal. (or partners, like AA, for who there are other bonus earning choice)
The point is: bonuses work! If it can get BA into our top 10 from nowhere, in a couple of years, that's interesting. Virgin Atlantic (BA's UK competitor) gives 50k miles and has partners, but that didn't make the 10. Perhaps BA's spend 30k and get a companion free in any class makes it worth keeping on spending? does for me.
Yes this is an informed group, but they will be spending on the card, so it worked for BA/Chase.

Can someone explain to me why chase sapphire preferred is better than capital one venture? With the venture you get 2 miles on every purchase. I understand that with the sapphire you get a 7% dividend and a 20% reduction when used on travel, but how does that come close to the benefit of getting 2x points on everything and lower annual fee with the venture card? The only actual benefit I see is that you can transfer to continental and a couple other programs… But then if thats what youre looking for, the spg card is whats good for that because of the 25% benefit. Thats why my two cards are spg amex (used for hotels + airline redemptions), and venture (used for cruises, car rentals, other hotels, etc and anything else that I can't us the spg for directly)

I also see that the big losers in the card battle are cards like Chase Hyatt, which only require one spend to "activate" the bonus.

I am a little suprised that the Hilton HHonors Visa card is in the list but Hilton Amex is not.

Honestly, the cards up there are probably mostly only listed bc people just got them and are trying to hit minimum spends. The $4,500 spend on SPG was the biggest spend for a popular card recently so everyone is working on that, and then of course the $3k sapphire preferred and recent gold bumps, etc…
Would be really interesting to see what

Very interesting. Thanks for doing this Rick!
Two questions came to mind as I scanned peoples' answers…
1) How many people have a certain card or cards in their wallet just because they are working on a minimum spend and not necessarily because they think those cards offer the best benefits?
2) Which cards do people think actually offer the most valuable benefits and why?
I think the answers to the last question could also be very helpful!
