this sounds like a great deal but what is the typical rack rate of a hyatt hotel? i.e. how many nights can $1000 of gift certificates get me in a typical hyatt hotel / large metro like washington dc?

Frugal guy, I love your blog but it is really hard to follow .. you talk about Thank You points bonus for Hyatt certs .. and then you go on to talk about Citi Forward: "As in the past, Citi is really strong with bonus category cards. The next one I'm looking at is the Citi Forward® Card, which pays five points per dollar at restaurants and movies. If the double-dip offer from Hyatt were to continue (there may be other offers) and all your spending was on dining at five points, that would give you a 10% return. My wallet can hold lots of cards and I'm pretty good at pulling out the right one for the right spend."

I don't get it! what is the point you are trying to make here? Maybe I'm stupid or your post is somewhat incoherent.

Anon: Citi Thank you points are earned when using a card that earns thank you points, like the Forward card, or the Premier card. When you earn thank you points you redeem them for things like Hyatt gift certs. I hope that helps

The weak sign-on bonus is probably attributed to the focus of the card being on College students and those w/ low credit score, right?

I know i got this one a few years back while in college and that was the draw…fairly easy acceptance to get credit started (although it was a 11 k sign on + all the bennie you mentioned when I started w/ it (plus never ending 5% on restaurants and entertainment)).
