    Howie,

    im in the pet business and i was wondering HOW in the world you travel so much with your dog at home? who takes care of him while away all the time? :)

    @Russell -

    My wife and I are very lucky. Her office is pet friendly and Austin (our Golden) is a hit in the office. When I'm away she'll take him in … and sometimes he has play dates with friends.

    He does spend the occasional day at home (which I feel horrible about), but we try to keep it to a minimum.

    I received a 10-minute survey about a month ago about the Alaska / Delta integration

    Oh, well that says everything. Won't happen.

  • Howie

    @Anonymous -

    It certainly doesn't say everything. It is another factor in why I think it'll happen. Would I say the same without having taken the survey? Yes, I would.

    Predictions are guesses, just like fishing isn't catching. I certainly wouldn't mind this guess being right.

    The best thing about Delta+Alaska would be the pre merger time when you can transfer miles between the programs. All those Skypesos getting transferred to Alaska so people can access AA awards. I'm getting giddy already just thinking about it.

  • Howie

    @Bikeguy Holy crap; didn't even think of that one. Commence drooling :)

    Imagine that!

    Howie,

    You know nothing 'bout M&A. Have a nice trip to North Korea.

    I think the more likely outcome would be AS buying AA out of bankruptcy. They have the balance sheet for it, and if they could persuade the AA FAs to accept the AS contract, the AA portion of the business would become very profitable, even with the MD80s still in the fleet.

    DL doesn't have the profits or the balance sheet to take on AS.

    Somewhat more probable would be AS buying HA and/or F9.

    I really don't want all my Alaska miles to get downgraded to Delta Skypesos… :(

    A consultation with my crystal ball indicates no merger of Delta w/ Alaska Air. For the record, my crystal ball indicated that Delta will merge with NWA years before it happened:-)

    I don't see Alaska merging with either DL or AA. Alaska has a good thing going by being themselves, and the dual intregrating with AA allowing AA customers many of the same benefits when flying AS as an elite, and also the same going on with DL and AS sounds to me like AS is perfectly fine just being a partner to both DL and AA and keeping their independence. I don't see AS merging with anyone anytime soon… and I saw AA's buyout of TWA long before it happened.
