Sounds like you had a great family trip! Enjoyed reading about it.

My husband and I have an award trip scheduled this spring to Hong Kong & Thailand. We are pondering purchasing trip insurance. We have never purchased it before as we thought it wasn't necessary. This trip we are considering it as we are getting older and have never been to Asia. What are your recommendations? Yes? No? If we should purchase the insurance, do you have any companies that you can recommend?

    Thanks for your help!

This sounds so GREAT!!! I love to read trip reports to Hawaii. Which airline did you fly? What is your home airport? Lastly, how many points did it take you to fly from NC to Kauai? Thanks so much :)

"As many of you know, I'm a member of a worldwide support group and we have become fond of the gang that meets at the Salvation Army building in town. It was nice to see familiar faces again this year"

Sorry, but I don't really get why this in your write up? It doesn't flow with the rest of the story? Maybe it's early and i'm missing something?

we flew united and came from Raleigh, Chicago, Savannah and Jetstar from Sydney

anon sorry you missed my point. The support group in Koloa was more to our liking than up in Lihue by the Marriott. One Day at a Time

    R. Miller, I have used a website called insuremytrip.com, to comparison shop for trip insurance. I too chose to buy insurance for our Asia trip. I didn't need to use it, but would probably do the same, the next time I go back. An even better thing IME, is making sure you visit a travel clinic beforehand. While I could have maybe gotten things like immunizations and the all important prescription for Cipro from my healthcare provider, I feel like it was money well spent going to the "experts". And BTW, I did have to take Cipro, it was wonderful to have it when I needed it, which unfortunately I did.

Next time in Poipu, try the Koloa Fish Market for a to-go lunch. This is the local hole in the wall on the main street in Koloa with great reasonable and authentic food – get a kalua pig lunch plate and a couple varieties of poke (raw fish salads) to share between a couple people. Have been going to Poipu for years and just found this place on my last visit based on Yelp recommendations and was glad i tried it out.

Thanks for the post! Getting excited cause I just used 77k Amex MR to get 4 R/T tickets from SEA on Alaska to LIH! Lovin' the BA transfer bonus with only $30 charge for taxes. ;-) Goin' in 2 weeks! – Aaron

Kauai – our favorite place of yesteryear. When we lived in Chicago, we went every year for 2 weeks
to escape the winter. It was actually our first use of FF miles. Flying in the nose of a 747 in the days before business class, we were served a standing rib roast, carved in the aisle. First class then was magnificent! Our stays were always on the North Shore of Kauai in Princeville waking every morning to see the waterfalls in the mountains. It was truly magical. Ah, but I reminisce too much.

Just curious, any thoughts on the The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas for the same points?
