Rookie Travel Tips
with Shannon
Last week's winning tip goes to Miles, Thanks for a great one!
"It's nice to have some local currency when you arrive at a foreign destination, and even nicer to have some small denomination coins and bills for tips, cab, etc. You can sometimes find foreign currencies for sale on Craigslist. If you don't see the currency you want for sale, then just post that you want to buy some. In advance of a trip to Viet Nam, I was able to purchase a million VND (worth about $50 USD) and the seller tossed in some small-denomination bills at no extra cost. -- Miles
My mom and I had a conversation not long ago about where she should go next as she was trying to find some interesting locations to put on the travel calender. My advice was to find places hosting festivals or destinations with activities she wanted to try. I'm sure many of you avid globe trotters have sat down and asked yourselves the "now where, now what?" question. For you, here is a list of ideas. Check these places out.
1. The Holistic Day Spa

Going to Macchu Picchu. Yay. It is a place once should visit at least once in his/her lifetime
You've got several of the trips I'm planning now (next 2-5 years) on this list!!! Thanks for the resources.
Before kids, my husband and I spent 2 weeks in Botswana including a camping safari in the Okavanga Delta. It was one of the best experiences of my life! We are just waiting for our kids to be old enough so we can go back and take them.
Er... La Selva Ecolodge, which you posted, is in Ecuador, not Brazil.
I'm confused why the destinations in the Amazon Basin are all hotels, rather than places to see.
We're going to Corsica and Sardinia in May! Appreciate any recommendations from folks who have been there.
Excellent advice Shannon. Decide what you like doing and that will help determine where to go. We have been thinking along those lines ourselves lately.
I'll be doing a 6 month stint in Brazil (Macae; it's the oil and gas capital of the country) right outside of Rio. I'm sure I'll be flying places but I don't have anything planned yet.
However, Ilha Grande will be quite close to me. Be sure to let me know if you come here as I could surely show you some neat spots (I'm Ben from the breakfast joint in Hilton Head!)
A bunch of work conferences this year, plus personal trips to C. and S. America, Alaska, and London/Paris/Amsterdam :-)
St Lucia/Bequia/St Vincent in Feb. with my 20 something son for some diving, then Phoenix for work, then Kauai for fun. After that I'll be looking at the list! Thanks.
You can get foreign currency at most american banks here in the states. Just go in and tell them what currencies you want. I left for europe with euros, pounds, and some others...
