    Quick question, how do you figure 100,000 chase UltimateRewards points? Best I can tell you can only get 50,000 for spending $5k within 3 months. Is there a 50,000 points for simply signing up, or are you saying 50,000 for two cards? (I assumed it was a joint account)

  • Howie

    @Anonymous – 50k for me and 50k for Sara; two separate card accounts. No joint applications … ever :)

    The whole deal has a minimum spend of $24,500 … but we charge everything with the exception of:

    * Mortgage (can't)
    * Electric Bill (can't)
    * Car payment (can't)

    All of our other cards will sit second fiddle as we work through these.

    Care to share the Citi Premier number you called for the instant decision?

  • Howie

    @M – Sure; 866-606-2787. It was posted on the application summary page which said "Your application is pending further review and we need additional information from you. Please call 1-866-606-2787 now to receive an immediate decision. Agents are a available now to quickly complete the processing of your application."

    They provided our application IDs and we called. Quite the pleasant process I must say.

    Staggering the apps might be helpful advice for some in that it spreads out the minimum spend requirements. I don't think it has any impact on approvals as I have always spread them out with no issues.

    Howie, On the Chase cards, I wouldn't be so quick to call the reconsideration line and use the credit limit shuffle to secure a card after getting the "wait ten days" notice online. I've called to secure the Continental card and shuffled some Hyatt credit line over to get it after receiving the online notice thinking it was a nice way of saying "you're denied". However, a month later, I applied for the United card and forgot to call after receiving the online notice. To my surprise, a week later, I had been approved for their highest limit. The "wait" notice doesn't always mean denial.

    New guy here. Can you point me somewhere that will show me which banks pull which credit report? My Transunion is a bit lower than the other two so I'd like to avoid it in my first churn as much as I can.

    Thanks

    Could you talk about what questions you were asked to get your Chase Ink Bold card approved? I want to apply for that card in a couple months but am getting cold feet because of a decline I got last month for the AmEx SPG Business card I tried to get using my SSN (sole proprietorship)…my Experian score they used was 748. But it was the first biz card I had ever applied for and I just have an eBay account…I have 2 Chase cards, an AmEx SPG and a Citi Dividend World at the moment. Thanks.

  • Howie

    @Anonymous – Regarding staggering the apps … completely agree. The other strategy to applying all at once is to do one a month and rotate throughout the year. The numbers will end up about the same; just a different strategy.

    @Seth – Thanks for the feedback and example of what you did. I probably could have gotten away with it and next time I may just do that.

    @Sean – Check out a thread Rick started on FlyerTalk (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/credit-card-programs/1138806-credit-pulls-database.html) or at CreditBoards.com (http://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?autocom=creditpulls)

    New to this game. Just applied for the southwest rapid rewards card, and got a decline. Like a dummy I put my income but all of my mortgage (wife pays half). Chase declined because of high income to obligation ratio. Would it be worth calling to explain? Or should I reapply after a certain date (how long do you wait after a decline?) with adjusted numbers? My credit isn't the issue, checked a few months ago and it was at 765.

  • The Mean Farmer

    I am with Mike. I applied for a business card using my own SSN and they wanted letterhead, or bank statements or other business documentation. I do find, fix/clean up furniture and other stuff for resell very part time, but don't have or need a business address, bank account etc…

    It has left a sore taste in my mouth and I am scared to try again for a business card. Do I give it a whirl, start a blog or website? What do I need to do here to up my chances?

  • Susan

    Hi Howie,
    I applied for the Chase United Visa Explorer card and will also call their reconsideration line to try to speed up the process.
    In your experience, how long does it take to actually get the card to start your purchases? I'm hoping I can get it in time to use the promotional miles towards a Europe trip next month. It's cutting it really close, but would love for it to work out.

    Thank you!

    Could you tell me where the 30K Delta skymiles came from…newbie here can't figure it out from the rest of the thread

  • Howie

    @anjones – Definitely call before you reapply. Explain your situation and be completely truthful. They've already pulled your credit … they might ask for some other form of verification but I would absolutely go this route before waiting and then reapplying.

    @Susan – I've always received my Chase cards within 5 business days of approval. Personally I would probably be too impatient and would call if I hadn't received it within those 5 days. If they can overnight a replacement card, they can certainly send one out quickly :)

    @Anonymous – 30k Delta SkyMiles comes from the Delta Reserve. 10,000 RDM (redeemable miles) and 10,000 MQM (elite/medallion miles) on first purchase and 20,000 more when spending $500 within 3 months.

    It's important to note that Credit Sesame and Credit Karma are fake credit scores (nicknamed "FAKO"). These two sites calculate your approximate score for Experian and Transunion. While they can be pretty close to accurate, some people, including myself, have found them to be pretty far off at times.

    The last I checked, Credit Sesame told me my score was 71 points higher than Experian actually reported. Credit Karma said I was 13 points lower than Transunion actually reported.

  • Joe

    Thanks for posting the business reconsideration line number – a big help in just getting an application approved. They didn't ask for a lot of documentation, but we're a 15 person company with a 5 year history, so may be listed in some database they check.
