    Sorry to hear. Check if your brother's home insurance covers identity theft.

    Lightening is striking all the time these days. I review all my cards weekly as have had 4 instances of theft in the past 24 months. In my situation credit card records had been breached on the issuer side. Twice during that period issuers themselves have released to me other customer's records in error. Lucky for them I'm an auditor and fraud examiner. Good luck getting everything fixed.

    Sorry to hear. Must be frustrating. A close friend had her id stolen and, besides fraudulent credit apps, the thieves did one more clever thing: they did a temporary mail forwarding request on the USPS site, to a foreclosed house. The creditor mailed the new credit card to my friend's real address but the USPS forwarded it (along with all other mail) to the foreclosed house. If you are an id theft victim, do verify with USPS. To add insult to injury, the victim can't block fraudulent future mail forwarding requests, he/she can only cancel them once they occur.
    On a different note, request a consumer report from Chexsystems, on top of the reports from EX, EQ, and TU. Chex gives details about one's banking accounts.

    @V -

    Thanks for the info on Chexsystems and comments on USPS.

    You're welcome. Glad I can give back to the community that taught me how to travel for free/less.
    Considering your brother's long-term id theft, he may be better off requesting a new ssn, instead of re-establishing the existing one. Good luck!

    Once you get the address of the indentity theft theives post an update because if the their was stupid enough to use his own address or the address of someone he knows, then it would be an easy case against him especially because he victimized a mentally disabled person.

    But another question how can a mentally disabled person get approved for a credit card I would think if they don't have a job or can't manage a checking account then they would need a cosigner.
