What a great idea, Rick! I've been trying to find something creative & independent that would put my talents of attention to details, organization & my PA skills to use…However, I've no experience in starting a business. Any suggestions or guidance you could provide me would be greatly appreciated. (I'd even give you complimentary use of my services once established!)

I rely on Google Calendar a lot to keep up to speed. I set a specific date, enter a note on GCal and can customize to have as many reminders as I want (email and text). I often times use it to remind me when annual fee time comes around to I can negotiate/cancel the card.

I also suggest automating finances; I know a lot of folks have concerns about bills being automatically paid, but it's one less thing to have to try and remember. Everything (utilities, mortgage, rent, credit cards, cell, etc) gets paid in full when it's due and I can look through statements to confirm that the correct amount is being charged. It's nice to have checks automatically mailed & credit cards automatically paid…One less thing to think about and many fewer opportunities to get smacked with late fees for being forgetful.

I agree with Andras…while this actually sounds like an interesting challenge to me, couldn't you just put reminders in calendar, or a to-do list/task tracking application like http://www.toodledo.com?

The only optimization is that you could take some reminder service like Toodledo, and insert templates, either by pre-configuring common credit cards with the intro spend amount and length, or just providing a simple template to allow someoen to enter the credit card name, spend amount, and spend period.

It's actually not a half bad idea. I've been doing this for family/friends as it is, but there could definitely be a business model for everyone else. I need to talk to my CPA & Lawyer for legal & financial purposes, but I might go after it. I think somebody above was right in the liability issues – as there are with all companies. Great suggestion Rick!

although i commented that you could design an application that would just be a fancy reminder system, I do see the value…I'm in the midst of a credit card churn myself, and being able to record what i've done with each card, which recon lines i've called, etc. is useful. I use a google docs spreadsheet, but a customized tool for tracking that information and what promotions and minimum spends I need to make would be useful too.

I'm a software engineer by trade, so I'm thinking about trying to develop a tool to do this. Anyone else interested in teaming on this?

Sorry to be a buzzkill, but…

How large a market is there for this? Sure, some people here would use it, but enough to make any money off of (after you figure all the development costs)? I would guess that, even among those who are highly focused on cards and churning, simple reminders (using many existing systems that are free or otherwise in wide use) would cover 95% of those who would care. Are you willing to chase that last 5% of the already relatively small market?

Seems like there are better ways to make a buck to me…but if you want to try, good luck to you.
