Rick, I think you can use the US Air club passes from credit card signup without having them with you. The instruction on the pass said only your Dividend mile number and the credit card is required for entry.

You do kind of sound snobby in this post… CLT to LGA was too difficult to stand in coach? It's like a 90 minute flight…. And between walking to your gate (which was as described a mile away) and boarding, your actual wait at the gate was what, an hour? I'm sure you survived without a club lounge attendant pouring you a diet coke

  • FrugalTravelGuy

snobby? spoiled? probably a little of both. I'd much rather have the lounge access and be in first.

agreed – coach and no lounge is the pits. if you fly every week you would certainly agree.

Anonymous, if you're going to complain, at least have the b@lls to write down your name! :)

i'm sure everyone would rather fly in first and hit up the club lounge. just be grateful that you actually have all these opportunities to fly while ppl struggle with life trying to make ends meet. *rolleyes* it astounds me how some of you bloggers act when you fly in economy.

The Dash 8 was probably not that old….either you're really young or you think the plane is old. What was the tail number?

How could you not still have the AMEX platinum card?

    lose some fucking weight

That Dash 8 is a more modern aircraft than some of the jets you're used to flying! As for me, I don't mind coach one bit. My miles go further in coach, and if given the choice of taking more trips with my miles, or being more comfortable on fewer trips… I'll take more trips any day. That's why I play the game.

And yeah, you sounded pretty snobby. Enough so that you've lost some credibility with this traveler, and I won't be recommending your blog anymore.

Amex Plat, even without flying US, offers access to US lounges. Good thing to keep in mind in case you're ever at an airport that has a US lounge but not a lounge for the airline you're flying. Plus, Priority Pass lounges are available, even if you don't have access to a US lounge.

I figure you know all of this, but for someone inexperienced stumbling into these comments, it's a nice reminder.

I'm not as big a guy as you are, Rick, but unlike some of the classless folks who have already posted derogatory comments, I understand what you're talking about. Your perspective is a good one. Some folks are in this for free travel only, and good for them. Many of us understand that you can also be in this to leverage travel in coach that you pay for into more comfortable travel in business (or first, if that's your pleasure).

The more you learn, the more you can achieve your own goals. Thanks for helping to show the way.
