Holders of the Citi American Airlines credit cards can redeem fewer miles for selected roundtrip domestic or Canadian flights, with the list posted on the Citi website on a quarterly basis. This can be a great deal for those interested in North American travel — for example, the April through June quarter shows flights to Vancouver for 17,500 miles roundtrip, which is a phenomenal deal for those traveling from the East Coast.

For those who may be unaware, American Express Membership Rewards is offering a 50% bonus on transfers to British Airways Avios points until May 31, 2012. Domestic U.S. flights with oneworld partner American Airlines can be fewer points than using AAdvantage miles. And the taxes aren't too bad either, in comparison. You could also use the Avios miles for MR positioning.

If you live in CT, IL, MD, NJ, NY, OH, PA or TX, you can sign up with Energy Plus to supply electricity to your home, you can earn 10,000 AAdvantage miles after your second month of service as an Energy Plus customer. Plus you earn 2 miles for every $1 you spend on the Energy Plus portion of your bill. Easy way to earn a good chunk of AAdvantage miles!

BankDirect still pays 12 miles per dollar per year on checking balances. They've introduced a maintenance fee ($12/month), but in this near-zero interest rate environment, it's still a a very good deal if you have a large balance to park. $100K at the national average yield of 0.5% earns $500. Add $144, and using BD instead costs you $644, but earns 120K AA miles, almost enough for 5 domestic roundtrips, or one first class roundtrip to Europe. And unlike the interest, the miles are tax free.

Make sure not to be signed up for their emails and then sign up for the emails when they have a points earning promo. Rinse and repeat.

SFO/OAK – both are lousy for AA.
