Rick, I know with SPG award stays count as stays, is the same true for PC? i.e. if I stay 3 nights using cash + points, would that count?

I have not done one in awhile, but to the best of my recollection they do not count as a stay. I’ll certainly stand corrected if somebody has a recent experience

I just got the B of A Bank of Hawaii Visa. Through their shopping portal you can get an extra point on Amazon. I don’t have the Freedom card so I could not take advantage of this quarters bonus.

Using the two browser trick with citi hhonors cards and the Amex hhonors card would get 150k points for only 2 credit hits. With the Amex card you qualify for VIP reduced point awards, meaning 4+ nights at a high end hotel!

I’ve been researching flights to Cancun lately for a vacation, and discovered that for ORD-CUN direct, it only costs 10k Avios each way in coach, 20k in business, for a flight on AA metal. It costs 12.5k AA miles off peak, 17.5k peak just for coach (30k for business). And taxes are only ~$30 more using Avios.

In relation to applying (or planning to apply) for credit cards so to obtain [LOTS of] points/miles for travel (LOTS of travel), Creditboards.com (http://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?autocom=creditpulls) is a great place to start learning about which banks pull inquiries from which credit bureaus in which geographic locations, along with learning about other people’s experience with credit. It’s important to spread out the inquiries and not overload any one credit bureau with inquiries. This will help you stay ahead of the game and have a firmer grip of what you’re getting into when applying for credit cards. As FTG always says, “your credit is one of your most important assets!”

Although only valid in parts of the country. I think a lot of people miss out on using partner airlines out of international markets. Having many skymiles is great, but using them can sometimes be a challenge. Not out of San Diego, however. Skyteam’s AeroMexico flies to Europe via Mexico city and actually has direct flights to NRT from Tijuana. I’m sure other border markets have this opportunity. We have twice flown to Europe from TIJ using only 60k miles per ticket for the family in coach in the summer a few months in advance. Think outside the “border”.
