This weekend Sara and I are headed to Atlanta for a wedding, and then on Monday the happy couple are off to Hawaii for two weeks and we’re headed to St. Lucia as a belated 5 year anniversary trip.
Five years was April 28th of last month, but we wanted to book something where we could get a “free day” off … hence the Memorial day booking. Flight-wise, award availability was to be expected with Delta. One-way medium level, and the other way high level; 60,000 Delta SkyMiles for each of us … in coach. Our medallion upgrades may clear, but the flight from Atlanta is shorter than a transcon so it doesn’t matter much. Had I booked first it would have been 2x at 120,000 each; no thank you.
The kicker is that both American and United had lower level availability, but we would have had to connect from Atlanta. Given the pile of Delta miles I have, the use of the 50,000 extra miles made sense for me in this case. I’ll hold on to the AA/UA ones for some international travel.
I’m excited to go back to where we went for our honeymoon; Ti Kaye Village but I don’t think I’ll ever get past the sting of not staying at a property where I’ll earn some loyalty points. The resort has only 20 or so rooms, and we’ve been confirmed in the same room we had when we were there last.
They also don’t take American Express… but thankfully I’ve got both the Chase Sapphire PreferredSM (Visa) and Ink BoldSM (MasterCard) and I won’t be hit with any foreign transaction fees. (I forget if the Office Depot visa cards that you can load with Vanilla have foreign transaction fees … but that’s a good alternative too).
We’ve thought about a day trip to Martinique, but the only things that we’ve planned for is sitting on the beach and at least one meal at the Rainforest Hideaway. Neat thing about the Rainforest Hideaway is the only way to the restaurant is via boat; water taxi it is! Next week I’ll post an update after our arrival
None of my friends have gone back to their honeymoon locations, so I’m wondering if we’re a bit of an oddball for doing this. Have you / will you likely go back to your honeymoon location? Here’s a few pictures from our trip last time:
