SunTrust Delta Check Card for 30,000 Miles

It is not all about credit card applications anymore and I’m glad to see SunTrust back in the game with a check card deal. Although not as lucrative as past SunTrust promos, or as filled with holes , this offers a solid opportunity for those with lower credit scores to play the frequent miles game.

The promotion offers 15,000 Delta SkyMiles for opening a qualifying checking account ($100 minimum) and another 15,000 miles for establishing a direct deposit (of at least $100) into the account. The check card cost is $75 and monthly fees exist depending on which type of checking account you open with SunTrust. I have no word yet on authorized users also receiving a separate bonus.

The promotion lasts until June 30, 2012; so the window is short to get started. I have spoken to the branch manager at the Hilton Head Island branch and they will only be accepting walk-in applicants. It seems their last venture into the check card game was not as they had planned and they have tightened their restrictions. There is evidence on the Flyertalk thread that some are opening accounts by phone from locations other than the Suntrust footprint states.

I wanted to let you know we got an update from the AAdvantage team on the post last week about losing miles with a closed Citi credit card. On the Sun Trust card, I have looked over the T&C’s, and it doesn’t say anything about canceling the cards and forfeiture of miles, so I am assuming that once your miles clear, you can cancel it and not have to worry about paying the monthly fee if you don’t have a $3000 balance.

Also, can anyone elaborate on if you can do BOTH a personal and biz account with them and get both sets of miles? The terms are kind of ambiguous, it says only one account per person, but I can totally see this going thru. I would think best to open both accounts at the same time at the branch? Any thoughts?

Just an FYI for readers wondering about fees. The Suntrust “Everyday Checking” has a $7 monthly fee that is waived if you do direct deposit or maintain a minimum daily balance of $500.

The Check Card doesn’t seem to apply to Everday, only to Balanced and better – Balanced has a $12 monthly fee, waived with a balance of $3,000 or more.

Correct on that – only on Balanced and better accts can you get this Delta check card offer. Furthermore, Suntrust will give you two full billing cycles to reach the $3000 balance min on the Balanced acct before the $12 mo fees apply.

Yo can get Chase BA card for 50K after 1st spend and 50K after 1st anniversary. Here’s how to do it:
If you go to ba.com begin booking a ticket, it’s better to do international, at the fifth stage which is payment you should receive an offer for 50k after 1 dollar spend and an additional 50k after paying the 2nd year’s fee. in essence 100k for one dollar spend except it takes just over a year to get the full amount.You do NOT have to continue booking after you apply, simply do not confirm.A few points:1) do not sign into your BA account, if you do not receive this offer try erasing your cookies or using a different browser.2) while you will have to pay two yearly fees for this offer it should be noted that on this app the fee is only $75 and not $95 (total $150 for 100K!!)3) you can most prob cancel in the begining of the second year to get your fee removed or prorated4)in order to be sure that you don’t accidentally book yourself a ticket i would advise a refundable ticket so if need be you can cancel

Great read about TripAlertz. Maybe I’ll use them instead of Expedia next time. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on my story . . . It would be great if I can share this, as I really feel Expedia is acting dangerously for women traveling alone.

I visited the Dominican Republic (Puerto Plata), traveling from Miami International Airport in January. I was very excited to book my trip through Expedia, and trusted the company to take care of my airport transfers. As a young woman traveling alone, these transfers were very important for me to book through a trusted company, as I had heard about many problems the country has with rapes, muggings and overall bad things happening with tourists visiting the area.

I immediately called Expedia to report what had happened with my transfer to the airport, leaving the Dominican from the Riu Mambo Resort. I can summarize my situation for you. Out of nowhere, the driver (who spoke no english) stopped on the side of the road in the middle of a busy place with mopeds and people all around (without informing me that he would be doing so) and motioned for me to get out of the van and go to a different mini bus parked in front of his van. The driver for the new van was twice the size of me, was not wearing a “Blue” shirt & the mini-bus had closed curtains. I saw that there was another dark-colored man waiting inside the mini-bus. I really thought I was going to get onto that bus & go to my death at that moment & wasn’t sure of I should scream, run or what. I was basically filled with anxiety & complied with what they said to do. I swear I almost ran I was so scared, but then I thought that would be a bad idea too.

In the end, the driver did take me to the airport, but it was a very frightening experience to not know if I was going to be at the airport, or taken someplace else to die in an unmarked vehicle. What these men did was definitely against the rules.

When I reported this to Expedia, they told me that the Riu Mambo said the van had technical difficulties & nothing more than the $30 transfer could be refunded. Allow me to be clear here – there were NO TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES with this van. These men were running a scheme, probably to make more money by splitting gas fees. Then Expedia told me that because there were van troubles, they could not refund anything more because The Riu Mambo (the hotel that lied) said the van had mechanical troubles.

I don’t even know if any money amount would ever really be appropriate for my LIFE or change my mind about Expedia’s extra services, however – it wasn’t right for the Riu Mambo to report something inappropriate as “there were technical difficulties with the van” when they weren’t there & don’t even know this is true!

I would hate for this to happen to any other person traveling using Expedia’s transfer services, especially women traveling alone like I was. I feel that Expedia did not do me right by this situation. I am also appalled by the Riu Mambo making a blatent lie like that to protect their own & now Expedia will not own up to what happened to me. & because of all this hassle now, I want to be refunded my money from even staying at the Riu Mambo for the lie their customer service team told Expedia.

In my opinion, Expedia and The Riu Mambo is acting dangerously by putting other women traveling alone in this position!

I appreciate your time in reading about my situation & allowing it to stay so Expedia can get a good look at what I’ll be posting all over the web every chance I get. People need to know! I don’t think I could ever again recommend Expedia because of this situation I went though & their corporate team has been just awful to deal with. One of the excerpt’s from the Expedia team says this: “We understand your plight, and found that our team contacted the vendor and were advised of the situation that occurred and you arrived safely at the airport.”

Really Expedia?

It’s time to stop doing circles around this issue that is CLEARLY PUTTING PEOPLE IN DANGER.

Suntrust is also offering another biz check card. 25K bonus for $120 fee and $1 spend. It is one per customer(each biz) (and you get four cards in different employee names for the same fee.) not sure if you can open more and get anymore points like others got the last time.
