If you go too long without any account activity, your AA miles will expire. If you check the website, you’ll find that you can reactivate the account, but that it will cost from $200 up to $600, depending how many miles you had.

But there’s a lesser know but possibly much cheaper way to get your miles back: a “re-engagement challenge”. It costs just $30, and then requires a combination of AA flights and AAdvantage partner activity. If you plan to fly AA anyway, this may be a big savings over simply paying to reactivate the account.

AA is having a business class sale to many destinations. From my local airport (DAY) I can fly to Costa Rica over the Holidays this winter in business class/ first class for $1,000 where a coach ticket is selling for $800. Well worth the $200 premium for the bump in class.
