My wife is a credit card producing machine. She went four for four with three instant approvals and some very nice credit lines.

The Fairmont card approval (instant) in conjunction with my approval gives us a nice freebie four day (I like that new term: Freebie Four Day) No annual fee first year, easy to reach minimum spend. Oh yeah.

Bank of America Virgin Atlantic card for 50K miles or the conversion (yep) to 100K Hilton Honors points. We had to call on this one but it was an easy approval and an $18,000 credit line (I get $5K to $10K if I’m lucky)

Citi Hilton card no annual fee, 40K points (I couldn’t get the 50K link to work?) instant approval.

Hilton Amex card again was an instant approval, with no annual fee $750 minimum spend and 40K points.

With all the Hilton Honors points we’ve got, we will be hitting a couple VIP reduced awards and an AXON award or two as well. I seem to have some sort of lifetime Hilton Gold status that I got some how?? I earned it with a Surpass card but that has been three years ago now and it just keeps renewing. I’m not meeting the minimum stays or spend on any Hilton card. Maybe Hilton likes me just as much as Citi doesn’t?

Milevalue.com has a great post today on how to get a free stopover on an AA award ticket at a city other than an international gateway city. This can allow someone to maximize their award ticket by theoretically having two stopovers for an extended period of time on one ticket at the same cost!

Unfortunately, in my life, 100% of the people I’ve told about travel hacking have given me the knee-jerk reaction of, “But that’ll ruin your credit! And you’re so young (24), you can’t do that! Think of when you want to buy a house, or a car!” I can, folks, and I will. Especially since me buying a house or a car is at least 5 or 6 years away. It’s tough to take on things like this when you don’t have a support system, or even a single person who’s willing to hear you out and bounce ideas.

I used 105K BA Avios points (earned from the Chase BA card) on American Airlines to buy 7 AA return tickets to Vegas for a family trip this summer. It’s only 15K Avios pts from DFW – > LAS vs. 25K using AA points.

I do moderate churning and I am refinancing some rental properties. My credit was pulled and my middle bureau score was 788. Not too bad for applying for CC’s on a regular basis. I tell people that applying for CC’s doesn’t affect my scores that much. Of course, my churns are on hold until the loans close.

Anything over 720/740 FICO’s will give people the best rates on car & mortgage products.
