Barclays US Airways Card Sign Up Bonus Increase

For a couple years now we have had the Chairman’s Preferred link on our blog offering 40,000 miles on sign up. You were supposed to have Chairman status on US Airways to qualify but it was never really necessary.

Now Barclays is offering a 40,000 mile sign up bonus to everyone with their Premier World Mastercard and the ability to earn an up to an additional 10,000 miles with a balance transfer within the first 90 days of account opening. The balance transfer offer does nothing for me as they fee to transfer is prohibitive, BUT the 40K on signup is really worth two domestic round trips not just one. When you use the Barclays card to book your award tickets US Airways takes away 5000 miles from any award booking thereby reducing the round trip domestic award to 20K.

I love this 20K award and the added benefits of the card which include:

One lounge pass first year
Two $99 companion certs every year
Double miles on US Airways flights and priority boarding

The annual fee is $89 but for two domestic tickets from a card issuer we don’t often get to use, take a look at this one.

Isn’t the balance transfer free for the first 15 months? If you really wanted the miles, couldn’t you transfer $10,000 to this account then pay it off within the first month to avoid interest on the transferred amount?

It looks like the balance transfer has 0% APR for the first 15 months, but there is a fee to do the balance transfer. The fee makes the 10k points not worth it.

@C.Lee Leo – There is a 3% balance transfer fee. So if you BT $10,000 you will be charged $300 on the day when the transfer takes place.

I believe that if you sign up via the original Chairman’s Preferred link you get a 10K mile anniversary bonus every year. I recently signed up with the old link and got my 40K miles. It remains to be seen though if I will get the anniversary miles as well. Still a good deal though since the annual fee for the first year was waived.

It seems you are clearly posting a sub-standard offer to make a profit at the expense of myself and your other readers. To be honest, ever since this blog was sold it has gone downhill to the point that the information posted can no longer be trusted.

Does anyone know why Iowans aren’t allowed to have a US Airways card? Application says Iowans and Puerto Ricans can’t apply. I’ve called them also and they can’t give me an answer.

I applied for the US Airways Premier World MC and was approved for the US Airways Dividend MC – no miles bonus. Is there anything I can do to remedy this?
