Rick,
It’s been a while since I wrote, but I needed to share the great vacation I booked on miles and points, thanks to your teachings. Last night on a whim, I thought I’d check business class award availability from DFW to Lihue HI for my wife and I. (I wasn’t optimistic because most of the other islands have no availability without 3 flights = hell no). I was shocked to find 2 seats! It’s not ideal because we have to change planes in LAX but to go in business class will make it more civilized. I spend 75,000 miles from my wife and my AA accounts (with the help of the now dying AA 2 browser trick).
The BEST part is that we’re staying at the Grand Hyatt Kauai totally on Hyatt points transferred from my Chase Ultimate Rewards account (Chase Ink Bold and Plus) and the 2 free nights I got from the Hyatt visa.
The cheapest business class flight for our dates is $1965 on Alaska Air. The cheapest room at the Grand Hyatt Kauai is over $400. So that’s about a $6500 vacation for free! Oh and we’re staying on the club floor so we get free breakfast ($70 value in Hawaii).
It was 14 years ago on our honeymoon that my wife I went to Kauai and we visited the Grand Hyatt thinking how great it would be to stay there, but never thinking we could afford it. It’s going to be awesome to go back.
Thank you so much for everything you do.
Respectfully,
__________
