We applied for a total of 3 Citicards on the 21st and got three different responses.

1. CitiBusiness AA Visa Katy Approved 75,000 AA miles

2. Citi Premier Thank You card for Katy. Can’t verify address? They could verify it for the Business card? Explain that to me.  I’ll send them verification and we’ll get that one approved.

3. Citi Premier Thank You card for Rick Denied too many inquiries I hate when that happens. It was pulled by Experian where I had 15 inquiries in the last two years but when I spoke to the rep from Citi she noted that there were 5 inquiries on the 21st. Not true, but they must have delayed the credit pull and shown at least 3 others..

One thing I have noticed with Citi over the years is if they do not give you an instant approval the page then either goes to a page where they offer you options like paperless statements, choose your payment date etc, or they just say we’ll get back to you. They offered Katy the options and not me, which leads me to believe that we can easily get her approval. For my denial, I’m going to have to write a reconsideration letter. Here is the address where I will be sending it for your future reference:

RE: 20110621xxxxxxx     Reconsideration Request

To Whom it May Concern:

I was surprised with your response of denial for the Citi Premier Thank You card with the 50,000 point bonus sign up offer. The reason for denial was “too many inquires.”

I did apply for several cards on the date of my Citi application and was approved by both Chase Bank and American Express for credit cards that now fit my new spending pattern, in addition to your Thank You point card. My reasons for requesting reconsideration are as follows.

1.   1. I have been a Citicard customer for over 10 years and HAVE NEVER BEEN LATE ON A PAYMENT.

2.   2. My current credit score is 759 on an FICO scale and approximately 865 on the Vantagescore scale with Experian where you checked my credit.

3.    3.We own our own home free and clear and have a net worth of over $XXX,000.

4.    4. My credit card usage to available credit is approximately 8% of my available credit and I seldom carry a balance. Your earnings are on time merchant fees with my accounts.

5.    5. My intent is to return the majority of my credit card business (in excess of $50,000 per year) to your cards and the Thank You point network. I plan on also obtaining the Forward card and Preferred card in the near future.

Please take the time to have a human being review my past credit history with Citicards. I’m sure you will find that I have been a loyal and profitable customer of Citi for many years and look forward to renewing our relationship with the Premier Thank You point card.

Respectfully

I sent along a copy of my 2010 Federal Tax return first page and copies of my statements from Amex showing my legal address. they don’t seem to be able to get that part right as evidenced by Katy’s request for more information.

This stuff takes time but a $500 in value per approval I’ll make the time. And besides, I want the card for future spending and awards.

Suntrust Bank, a regional southeast bank is offering three different Visa Check cards that earn miles on signature based transactions. The basic card costs $20 and earns 1 mile for every $2 spent. You also receive a 2500 mile sign up bonus after your first signature based transaction. The upgraded card offer one mile per $ spent and have a annual fee of $55, with a 5000 miles sign up bonus and a one time Delta Club pass..

And the last card is a biz card that also costs $55 and offers the same 5000 mile sign up bonus along with the Delta Club pass.

There are over 40 million Americans that cannot get a credit card. They do not need to be shut out of the mileage game with this check card.

Free Money from Chase Bank

Because of our yearly move we are always changing addresses with the US Post Office. Today in the mail we got a coupon from Chase bank for $125 for opening a new Chase checking account. For those of you that missed the airline sign up bonuses, this may help sooth the pains. Deposit $100 of new money and set up direct deposit and earn the $125 bonus.

Go to your nearest US Post Office and pick up a change of address packet. You should find the offer inside. First one to respond can have mine. We have reached our limit this year with Chase promos.

TravelZoo Fantastic Offer

Yesterday I got a note from the TravelZoo Top 20 Email list of a roundtrip fare Detroit to San Juan Costa Rica for $212 round trip including taxes. The fare is good through next year with the exception of the holidays.

This is a perfect example of why I recommend this free email subscription.

It’s time for another letter writing campaign as I caught a couple banks being slippery with their promotions.

I’m on hold now with US Bank as they offered 4000 miles for getting a Check Card before August 31st. I did all the necessary requirements and kept notes. I know the day I applied, the day I faxed them the required documents and the day their agent last spoke to me. At issue are 9000 Northwest Miles, 4000 from the Check card sign up and 5000 for making it to the next tier in the mileage to go promotion. I fired off one email to NW customer service already and got the typical sorry you are too late for the Miles to Go promotion which ended on July 31st. I in turn informed her that her perception of reality is fogged as I have the supporting documentation to prove my position.

The second example is Citibank. They are sending me requests to refer others to their credit card programs. Some of you have responded to my offer to refer you and have no doubt applied for the cards. Some of these referrals go back to April of this year. Well, you have the cards and I never got my referral points.

Send me a note if you applied and received your credit card after asking me to refer you please. My email address again is ingy104@gmail.com

I’m reading a thread online today and it seems this is typical behavior for Citbank. They ask us to refer customers and don’t provide the referral incentives they promise. It is not a big deal, but the principle of the thing. I only refer products that I use myself, and rightfully expect them to live up to their end of the bargain. It was about ten to one for those that had to chase versus those that received their points automatically.

So off goes a certified letter, return receipt requested to the CEO of Citbank for a few Thank You Points. The thread said this is the way to go, so that is the way I went. I’ll keep you updated.
