Fall hotel promotions are lining up nicely, with IHG Rewards announcing it’s latest Big Win promotion. Through December 31, 2013 members can earn up to 50,000 points by staying just four nights at IHG properties. Below is a breakdown of point payouts:
- Try one and done: Stay at any IHG hotel and receive 1,000 points
- Stay more and earn: Stay a total of 4 nights and receive 4,000 points
- Explore more brands: Stay at 3 different IHG brands and receive 10,000 points
- Book with us: Book 2 separate stays through an IHG hotel website or mobile device to get our best price guarantee and receive 2,000 points
- Win in a weekend: Stay 2 Saturday nights and receive 8,000 points
- Win big: Complete all of these offers and receive 25,000 points.
There isn’t alot of excitement around this promotion, even though it’s a great mattress-running opportunity. According to this FT thread, you may receive a different offer, depending on your status.
If you’re going to take advantage of this promotion, here’s a quick strategy for doing this as cheaply as possible:
- You only need four nights to get the maximum 50,000 points.
- Book three of the nights separately and at different IHG brand properties (i.e. Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Candlewood Suites, Staybridge Suites, etc.).
- The fourth night can be booked consecutively with another stay.
- Weekend nights tend to be cheaper, especially in the following markets: Dallas, Orlando, Atlanta, and Virgin Beach. Booking all four stays on a weekend might make the most sense. I’ve found low rates of around $50 per night in the above markets throughout October.
With this in mind, it’s possible to complete this promotion and earn the maximum 50,000 points for just over $200. Considering you can use 50,000 points for ten nights at a PointBreaks hotel, or a night at properties like the Intercontinental Le Grand, which regularly goes for $700+ per night, this promotion can be mattress-run worthy if you play it right.
No word yet on whether this can be stacked with other promotions, to make it even more lucrative. Please share in the comment section if you’ve had luck with stacking.
