There are many different credit cards on the market, each offering various perks that make them worth keeping long-term. One of the most common perks of hotel credit cards are annual bonuses in the form of free night certificates, or bonus points that can be redeemed for free nights. These annual bonuses can be a great way to off-set annual fees, and sometimes the rewards are equivalent to earning a sign-up bonus every year. Below is an outline of these cards:
1. Chase IHG Rewards Visa. This card is often cited as one of the best hotel credit cards. This is partly because the annual fee is just $49 per year and also because cardholders get a free night they can use at any IHG hotel worldwide. The lack of brand/category restriction makes this incredibly valuable.
2. Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature. This card offers a major benefit that other hotel cards lack: Cardholders get their last night free when they redeem two or more nights. This can be worth upwards of 50,000 points per reservation.
If that’s not enough, cardholders receive 40,000 points annually for renewing the card. Considering this gets you up to 4 nights at a Club Carlson property, the $75 annual fee is well worth it.
3. Club Carlson Business Rewards Visa Card. The business version is just as generous as the Premier version, granting 60,000 points each year you renew the card. The annual fee is even lower than the personal card at $60 per year.
4. Club Carlson Rewards Visa Signature. Those who aren’t approved for a Club Carlson Premier Rewards card are demoted to this version. Sure, the sign-up bonus isn’t as high, but the $50 annual fee gets you an extra 25,000 bonus points each year, which is enough for 1-2 nights at Club Carlson properties worldwide.
5. Chase Hyatt Visa. The Chase Hyatt Visa’s sign-up bonus of two free unrestricted nights is a great perk. It’s too bad the annual free night is restricted to a Category 1-4 hotel. Still, this is the equivalent of earning an extra 5,000-15,000 points, depending on where you put the free night to use.
6. Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card. The Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card offers cardholders a free night at a Category 1-5 hotel each year. This can be worth upwards of 25,000 points, which isn’t a bad value. Considering the annual fee is $85 (though waived the first year), you should have no problem off-setting it with a good redemption.
7. Chase Fairmont Visa. The Fairmont Visa technically shouldn’t be on the list, as you have to meet $12,000 in spend each year to get a free night. Still, we’ll include it as a reference for those who manage to put $1,000 per month on this card.
Do you have any of these credit cards? How do you put your free night to use?
