Starwood Preferred Guest and Delta Air Lines partnership called Crossover Rewards is offering a new benefit to SPG elites—complimentary First Class and Delta Comfort+ upgrades.
SPG Platinum Preferred Members who are enrolled in Crossover Rewards are eligible for same-day upgrades on eligible paid tickets. As a reminder, Basic Economy fares are not eligible for upgrades, regardless of status.
The new benefit comes in addition to already existing benefits for SPG Platinum Members, including priority check-in, Zone 1 boarding and the first checked bag at no cost. Both SPG Platinum and Gold Members also earn one Starpoint per dollar spend on Delta flights (base fare).
To qualify for SPG Platinum status, guests must complete either 25 eligible stays or stay 50 eligible nights in a calendar year. Keep in mind, Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express comes with two stays and five nights, among other benefits, which makes it a bit easier to qualify for elite status.
Complimentary upgrades for SPG Platinum Members would appear on the upgrade priority list below upgrades for Delta Medallion flyers, Air France/KLM elite flyers and Alaska Airlines elite flyers. If available, day-of-departure upgrades would be cleared at the gate.
Because SPG members are rather low on the upgrade list, it is unlikely a First Class seat would be available after all other upgrades clear. A chance of being upgraded to one of the Comfort+ seats is more likely. Delta Comfort+ seats offer up to 4 inches of extra legroom, compared to Main Cabin, dedicated bin space, premium entertainment and complimentary alcoholic beverages.
Crossover Rewards are reciprocal between elite SPG guests and elite Delta passengers. Medallion members enrolled in the program have access to 4 p.m. late checkout, SPG elite check-in line, complimentary in-room Internet access and room upgrades at check-in, based on availability. Delta Medallions also earn one bonus mile per dollar spent on eligible Starwood stays.
Implementing new benefits for loyalty members is always a nice touch, and this enhancement is an improvement to the Crossover Rewards between SPG and Delta.
