Are you a US passport holder planning a trip abroad, but you have never needed a visa before and you needed some information? Perhaps you would like to factor the cost of a visa into your travel budget, but you don’t know where to start. Fortunately, there is a resource out there that can help.
The website howmuch.net has added an infographic on just this topic. In this infographic, the majority of the countries in the world are divided into categories based on the expense of a tourist visa.
(It is important to note that you will need to look elsewhere for application processes and visa requirements, but such information can be found via Passport Index as well as the US Department of State and immigration websites for the specific country you would like to visit.)
At first glance, it is fairly easy to see that Canada, Mexico and Central America, and the majority of Europe and South America are visa-free. However, note that the purchase of a Mexican tourist card may be required if your trip exceeds one week or if you do not cross the border by land.
Other than that, though, travel to these nations does not require any visa, so crossing borders should be a breeze! In Oceania, you can pick up a $40 visa for Papua New Guinea upon arrival, and for Australia, you may purchase a $20 eTA/eVisitor visa. Other than that, Oceania is visa-free as well!
It is a little more expensive to travel to Asia and Africa, however. The majority of Asian nations will cost at least $50 for a visa, and most African nations will cost at least $100. Some of these costs may seem to have a tinge of political motivation, such as a Chinese visa which costs $140 for US citizens and $30 for everybody else.
However, the most expensive nation to visit as an American citizen is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which requires an investment of $533 dollars!
Wherever you may be traveling next, be sure to check out this infographic to get an idea of whether or not you will need a visa, and if you do, how much it is going to cost. Then, be sure to check out the Department of State for further information on how to obtain your travel visa. Happy traveling!
