Every time I visit an airport lounge as part of my credit-card benefits, I think to myself, “How does one ever go back to non-lounge life?”
Recently, I was at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport and visited a Centurion Lounge for the first time. The Centurion Lounge offers complimentary access to The Platinum Card from American Express holders. There are only so many of these lounges in the United States, and my travels rarely take me through those airports, which is why I hadn’t had a chance to visit one.
Other lounges are located at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Miami International Airport and LaGuardia Airport.
The Centurion Lounge at McCarran is located in Concourse D, across from Gate D1. It is open between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. My flight was departing from Concourse C, so I took a short tram ride to and from the D gates. At check-in, the receptionist asked me to present my Amex Platinum Card, an ID and a boarding pass.
Once in the lounge, I went straight for the food. Dinner choices included roasted squash soup parmegiano, fried chicken with Scotch bonnet sauce, pecan wild rice, roasted baby Brussels sprouts, turkey sandwiches, olives, salad greens, vegetables, fruits and cookies.
Non-alcoholic beverages offered were filtered water, tropical passion iced tea, pineapple, cranberry, orange juice agua fresca, tea and a coffee machine. The well-stocked bar is in the dining area also, and the choices were plentiful. The lounge was a bit busy during my visit, and the service and upkeep were great.
The lounge has a nice atmosphere. Quiet areas are separated from the TV areas and the dining area. The design and decor are modern, and the space is used efficiently for guests to feel comfortable and somewhat private. Some tables had “Reserved” signs on them, so I’m assuming it’s possible to reserve seats in advance.
A nice addition I noticed is a separate room for those traveling with children. The room with a glass wall has some toys and a TV to keep the little ones occupied, and the wall lets parents watch their kids from the lounge area while they enjoy the amenities. However, it was empty during my visit.
Overall, I enjoyed my time at The Centurion Lounge in Las Vegas. If I’m ever at McCarran again, I’d be happy to visit again and bring a friend. The Platinum Card or the Centurion Card holders may bring up to two guests or a spouse and two kids. A day pass for members with other American Express cards is $50.
