Some credit cards have pretty amazing benefits just for having the card. Many of these cards, and the ones we will focus on in this post today, are premium cards with significant annual fees. Specifically, the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Citi Prestige Card, and The Platinum Card from American Express (as well as The Business Platinum Card from American Express OPEN).
Adding people as authorized users on these credit cards can give some of the benefits to the authorized user, but not all of them. This post covers the details of what benefits the authorized user has and which ones they won’t have.
Chase Sapphire Reserve
The Chase Sapphire Reserve charges $75 to add an authorized user to the card.
Benefits the Authorized User Has:
- Priority Pass Lounge Access
- Travel Protections
Benefits the Authorized User Doesn’t Have (Or Shares):
- $300 Annual Travel Credit (Shares – $300 is the total travel credit for the account)
- Global Entry or TSA PreCheck Fee Credit (Unless it hasn’t been used by the primary card holder)
Citi Prestige
The Citi Prestige charges $50 to add an authorized user to the card.
Benefits the Authorized User Has:
- Priority Pass Lounge Access
- Travel Protections
Benefits the Authorized User Doesn’t Have (Or Shares):
- $250 Annual Airline Fee Credit (Shares – $250 is the total airline credit for the account)
- 4th Night Free
American Express Platinum (And Business Platinum)
The American Express Platinum Card charges $175 to add up three authorized users. The Business Platinum Card charges $300 per authorized user.
Benefits the Authorized User Has:
- Priority Pass Lounge Access
- Centurion Lounge Access
- Delta Lounge Access (When traveling on Delta same-day)
- Global Entry or TSA PreCheck Fee Credit
- SPG and Hilton Gold Status
- Boingo Internet Access
Benefits the Authorized User Doesn’t Have (Or Shares):
- $200 Annual Airline Incidental Fee Credit (Shares – $200 is the total credit for the account)
Based on the above, it is pretty obvious that your authorized users on the American Express Platinum Card will receive the most benefits. It does cost more to add just one or two authorized users, but if you add all three it is right in the middle of the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Citi Prestige, cost-wise, with more benefits.
