Sometimes finding a good deal on car rentals seems like the most difficult part of planning a trip. To make things even worse, the car rental loyalty programs are far less rewarding than hotel and airline programs. Before I turned 25, I always booked my car rentals through USAA because their code waives the underage rental surcharge, and it’s one of the benefits of USAA that can be used my non-military. USAA is also great if you want to add an extra driver to your rental without paying an additional fee.
If you’re over 25 and don’t need an additional driver for your rental, there is an even better option. Enter Autoslash.
How It Works
Autoslash makes it fairly easy to compare prices for a variety of rental car types across a bunch of companies, though it will often require an emailed quote. You can enter the information for your travel and will likely be asked for more details so a quote can be emailed to you in 30 minutes or less.
After you have received your quote, you can book whatever car suits your fancy and then Autoslash becomes even more handy! Autoslash will continue to monitor the price of your rental and will automatically rebook your car if it becomes available for a lower price!
Even if you didn’t originally book your rental with Autoslash you can still utilize the monitoring service.
Additional Insurance
Remember, when you’re booking a car rental you can save even more by choosing to pay with a credit card that offers insurance! My personal card of choice is either the Chase Sapphire Reserve or less expensive cousin the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card.
Both of these cards offer primary car rental insurance meaning that as long as you decline the car rental company’s insurance you will be able to use your credit card insurance before your personal auto insurance policy. Some cards only have secondary insurance coverage meaning that they will cover whatever is left after your personal policy has been exhausted.
Autoslash is my favorite way to quickly save quite a bit of money on car rentals.
