I hadn’t had the chance to fly Cathay Pacific in business class… until recently, and even though it was a short flight it was a very pleasant experience!
Cathay is very interesting because they fly widebody aircraft on many short routes, like from Hong Kong to Taipei, Taiwan. This is the route that I flew recently, and though it is less than a two hour flight, it is flown on a Boeing 777.
Where this gets really interesting is that since Cathay Pacific is a member of oneworld Alliance, it’s possible to use British Airways miles to book flights on Cathay. British Airways has a distance based redemption program, so a flight that is less than 650 miles in the air costs only 4,500 British Airways Avios to fly in economy or 9,000 Avios to fly in business class. 9,000 miles to fly in business class is a pretty incredible deal.
Cathay’s B777 features fully flat seats and a meal that you’ll actually want to eat! I went with the braised lamb shoulder on my flight. My favorite thing about flying Cathay Pacific is their yummy ‘Cathay Delight’ drink. It’s served as a pre-departure beverage and also available during meal time. Don’t forget to ask for one!
While I didn’t spend any time sleeping on my short flight to Taiwan, I found Cathay’s seat to be pretty comfortable and definitely specious enough for a good night of sleep on a longhaul flight. I was seated in the first row of the business class cabin and I am pretty sure that those seats feature a slightly larger food compartment – something that anyone nearing six feet or taller should keep in mind.
I definitely want to fly Cathay Pacific in business class again, preferably on a longhaul flight.
If you haven’t tried flying business class yet, I think spending 4,500 extra miles to try it out is a pretty incredible deal. Even if you have flown business class before and just want to treat yourself to some extra luxury on a short flight, you really can’t beat business class on an internationally configured jet for only 9,000 miles!
Have you ever splurged for business class on a short flight?
